Lab equipment refers to all the equipment that is present inside a lab. It ranges from things as small as test tubes and beakers to larger things such as particle accelerators, centrifuges, and cold storage spaces. Any and all robots present and working within the laboratory are also classified as lab equipment. 

  1. People. 

A lab is populated by the people who work in it. Given that it is always a diverse group of researchers, the lab has to accommodate their needs. This involves proper ventilation systems, cooling and heating systems, and environmental health and safety factors. These considerations need to be made in order to keep the scientists and researchers safe in order to cultivate a climate where efficiency can be prioritized. 

In order to design the perfect lab, one needs to understand the fundamental differences that exist when it comes to the types of lab. Labs can be largely split into two main types, wet labs and dry labs. 

Wet Labs. 

A wet lab is used to manipulate liquids, biological matter, and chemicals. It involves the use of PPE. 

Dry Labs. 

A dry lab is used to carry out computations, physics based research, and engineering. It does not require the researchers and scientists to wear protection gear. 

The results achieved in a dry lab are often confirmed by a wet lab. The confirmation spurs further research into the phenomenon that is being studied in the dry lab. While both labs specialize in different disciplines of research, the results yielded from the said labs have led to human advancement. 

These two labs can be further divided into teaching labs, testing labs, and research labs. However, some are more specific than others with testing labs being usually wet labs and research labs being usually dry labs.
